Emmy the Great, real name Emma Lee Moss, has released “Swimming Pool,” which is a single for an album we can expect in 2015. Her lyrics and voice are both beautiful and haunting at the same time. Also, I am a sucker for harmonies that stretch over a few octaves, so she has that working for her too.
Rose’s Pawn Shop- “Mountains”
Big sound Americana that would perfectly accompany any swing dance. Originally from Los Angeles, Rose’s Pawn Shop is a five piece band that triumphs sing-a-long refrains and that backyard bluegrass feel. Here are two anthems off their new album “Gravity Well.:”

Mariachi El Bronx – “Wildfires” & “High Tide”
Going from hardcore punk rock to Mariachi music is difficult to imagine, but the Mariachi El Bronx have done just that. Most known for their punk band The Bronx, vocalist Matt Caughthran and Co. went a whole different direction in April 2007 under an alter ego, Mariachi El Bronx. The band experiments with electronic and pop undertones along with the classic rhythmic shuffling of mariachi music. It’s whimsical and daring and is this week’s Futuristic Friday.
